Arsenal U21s suffered their fourth defeat of pre-season as they were beaten 2-0 away to Chelmsford City today.

Max Porter gave playing time to an unnamed trialist in the second half, while Theo Julienne made his return to action.

There were just two changes to the starting lineup from the defeat to Enfield Town, with Jack Porter replacing Remy Mitchell in goal while Marcell Washington came in for Cam’ron Ismail at left-back.

First year scholar Patrick Stachow received his first callup at this level, with the defender being named on the bench.

Subs: Nygaard (for Porter, 46), Julienne (for Ferdinand, 60), Trialist (for O’Neill, 60), Hashi (for Ibrahim, 71), Thompson (for Zecevic John, 78), Ismail (for Washington, 78). Not used: Stachow, Murisa, Oyetunde.

It has been a common occurrence for Arsenal U21s to concede early in pre-season games and that was the case yet again, with Josh Hedges putting Chelmsford in front after just four minutes.

Lucas Nygaard replaced Porter in goal for the second half and Ceadach O’Neill tried his luck with an attempt before recent signing Demiane Agustien hit the post.

Further changes followed, with Julienne and the trialist coming on for Seb Ferdinand and O’Neill.

Chelmsford doubled their lead through Jack Barham with 20 minutes remaining.

Schoolboy Kyran Thompson received another runout late on but Arsenal fell to a defeat.

The U21s conclude what has been a frustrating pre-season campaign when they face Monaco II away next weekend.

It could be the case that some of the academy players who travelled with the first-team to Asia could be back available for the U21s for that game.
