After the Noni Madueke signing, are Arsenal still expected to pursue a left winger?
That is the question likely to divide opinion among Gooners, despite Arsenal seemingly ticking every box in this summer’s business.
Some fans remain hopeful that moves for Rodrygo or Anthony Gordon are still on the cards. But given the £52 million splashed on Madueke, there is a chance Arsenal opt against further investment on the wings.
It would be a gamble, but one they may now be willing to take.
Madueke More Than Just a Saka Stand-In
Although many see the former PSV Eindhoven star as backup to Bukayo Saka on the right, those close to the player insist he brings much more to the table.
Saul Isaksson-Hurst, Madueke’s personal coach for the past four years, recently explained why his client could well challenge for a role on Arsenal’s left wing as he begins life in red and white.
“He can play either side,” Isaksson-Hurst told the Evening Standard, dismissing suggestions that Madueke’s talents are limited to the right wing. “He is left-footed and does not have to be an inverted winger. He can do a job there on the left and be successful, I am really confident about that.
“He is going to see a lot of the ball and get chances to break lines. Whether there is space beyond the defender or not, he is effective in both situations.
“I think he has all the tools. For me, looking at how things are developing, having Saka on one wing and him on the other could be England’s two wide players for the next few years.”

Could Arsenal Be Done in the Wide Areas?
For fans frustrated at the cooling interest in a left winger, Isaksson-Hurst’s words may offer some reassurance.
With Mikel Arteta’s sharp eye for talent, it is hard to imagine a £52 million swoop for Madueke being just a backup option. Gabriel Martinelli may need to raise his game, as an unexpected challenge for his spot looms.
And if the Madueke-on-the-left experiment does not click straight away, Arsenal could also turn to Eberechi Eze (widely anticipated to sign) as another wide option.
So even if Arsenal do not pursue a new winger, it would not be entirely surprising. The Madueke deal may already have covered that base.
I’d love to hear your opinions in the comments.
