After Gyökeres Deal, Arteta Doesn’t Rule Out More Signings to Come

Mikel Arteta has refused to rule out the possibility of further additions following the arrival of Viktor Gyökeres. The Swedish centre-forward became the club’s sixth addition of the transfer window, with all the signings announced in the month of July. This flurry came after a fairly quiet June, when Gooner were asking ‘Why is Arsenal taking so long to make their first signing?‘, but six additions have now been made. Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Nørgaard, Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Cristhian Mosquera and Viktor Gyökeres have all joined for a combined fee of over £200 million, yet Mikel Arteta has hinted more could follow.

Speaking to the Arsenal media after the 3-2 friendly win over Newcastle in Singapore, Arteta said: “Let’s see. The market is still going on and we’ll have to balance that out with the squad as well. I think we’ll be open to seeing what happens.”

Focus shifts to sales and contracts

Following the spending spree, attention will now likely turn to outgoings and contract renewals. The Gunners received a timely boost after William Saliba gave a positive update on his situation, telling AFTV he would “hopefully soon” sign a new deal. His contract expires in 2027, and the club remain relaxed about Real Madrid’s interest. Bukayo Saka is also expected to follow suit, with negotiations reportedly progressing behind the scenes.

Potential exits before the window closes

In terms of departures, several players could still leave this summer. Albert Sambi Lokonga and Fabio Vieira are among those expected to be moved on, but an established name could also exit to help fund further business. Gabriel Martinelli and Jakub Kiwior have also been linked with potential moves, as Arsenal consider a final signing, while Leandro Trossard and Oleksandr Zinchenko are expected to remain in the squad.

The Gunners remain strongly linked with Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze. Real Madrid’s Rodrygo was originally the top target for the versatile forward role, but Eze is now seen as the more realistic option.

If there’s to be one more major signing before the deadline, Eze appears to be the most likely candidate. Or could Rodrygo come back into the picture? He seems to be have yoyoing on and off the Arsenal Target List throughout the transfer window so far, so we can’t rule out another re-appearance..

Share your thoughts in the comments Gooners. Could Arsenal make another big signing in this transfer window? What could Arteta & Berta have up his sleeve?
