Arsenal currently have the most valuable collection of former academy players, which is testament to their growing reputation for developing star players. The club have concentrated a lot of resources into their academy over the past decade and are now reaping the rewards.
The facilities at Hale End underwent a major redevelopment project that was formally completed in 2017. This two-year, multi-million pound initiative included significant upgrades and expansions to the existing structures, all geared towards developing quality players capable of stepping up to the first team. That investment has paid off, with the academy producing the likes of Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe, Joe Willock and, more recently, Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly.
Gunners sit top of the academy value table
In a perfect illustration of the academy’s effectiveness, Arsenal currently possess the most valuable collection of homegrown talents in their first team squad. According to Transfermarkt via a post on X, the Gunners rank first among Premier League clubs for having the most valuable group of former academy players.
The five players collectively have a market valuation of €269 million, which is €40 million more than Manchester City’s collection of seven players in second place. Although the post did not explicitly name the five former academy players, they are most likely Karl Hein, Reiss Nelson, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Ethan Nwaneri and Bukayo Saka. The latter accounts for a large portion of the collective valuation, with a value of around €150 million.
Over the years, Arsenal have also profited from the sale of academy graduates. Emile Smith Rowe, Joe Willock and Eddie Nketiah immediately spring to mind, representing pure profit on the club’s accounts.

Next generation set to boost Arsenal’s homegrown legacy
Per Mertesacker opens up on Arsenal’s plans for the Academy.
The values of Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly are only expected to rise. Both players are now established members of the Arsenal squad following breakthrough campaigns that thrust them into the limelight last season.
The likes of the exciting Max Dowman and highly rated Marli Salmon, along with a host of other promising prospects, are next in line – further testament to Arsenal’s world-class academy. The Gunners have always been known for making superstars.
Due to Arsenal’s historically poor sales record, should the club now adopt a more ruthless sales policy moving forward? Contributions are appreciated in the comments.
