Arsenal were held to a 0-0 draw against Manchester United on Sunday afternoon at Leigh Sports Village.

Renée Slegers made two changes to the Arsenal lineup, with Olivia Smith replacing Beth Mead and Stina Blackstenius replacing Frida Maanum, as Alessia Russo dropped to the #10 position.

Manchester United had a chance within seconds. A simple long ball from Maya Le Tissier found Malard, whose shot was beaten away by van Domselaar.

Van Domselaar was called upon again in the 13th minute. Bizet crossed and Van Domselaar fumbled the cross. The ball came to Malad, and her shot was blocked by Reid, and then Van Domselaar saved the follow-up effort from Park.

Good defending from Katie Reid saw her outpace Ella Toone, and then at the other end, Smith was played in behind down the right by Little but her cross was too close to Tullis-Joyce.

Smith went close on 21 minutes from a corner. Mariona went short and Smith was found on the edge of the D, and her dipping shot clipped the bar.

Mariona created a good chance on 38 minutes. She curled in a cross from the right hand side of the box, but Blackstenius misjudged her timing and couldn’t make contact.

Blackstenius won the ball off Janssen, and slipped the ball to Russo, who drove into the box. Forced a little wide, she shot straight at Tullis-Joyce.

Little then floated a cross to the far post for Smith, who had too narrow of an angle, and headed wide of the near post.

Foord and Mariona combined on the left in first half stoppage time. Foord drove into the box and curled her shot, but it wide of the near post and behind the net, fooling some fans in attendance.

On 50 minutes, Catley cheaply lost possession and Malard was played in behind. Catley stood her up, and conceded a corner.

On the hour mark, United went close. Park drove away from Mariona in midfield and found Zigiotti, who shot just over the bar.

On 64 minutes, Renée Slegers made a triple substitution. Frida Maanum, Chloe Kelly, and Taylor Hinds replaced Stina Blackstenius, Olivia Smith, and Katie McCabe.

Maanum should’ve put Arsenal ahead shortly after coming on. Her pass for Kelly was cutout, but she won the ball back on the edge of the box and drove into the penalty box with only Tullis-Joyce to beat but she shot wide of the near post.

On 79 minutes, Beth Mead replaced Caitlin Foord.

Terland looked to capitalise on a mistake from Catley, but Reid, Arsenal’s best player on the day, came across and tackled.

In second half stoppage time, Toone lined up a shot from distance but the shot was well wide of the post, with neither side able to create a telling moment.
