William Saliba has provided a huge update concerning his future and it’s good news for the Gunners. The club were reportedly set to face a battle to keep hold of the imposing French defender amid concrete interest from top European clubs. Real Madrid reportedly hold him in high esteem and consider the defender a player that would strengthen their squad significantly. His contract being up in the summer of 2027 also aligns with their recent transfer strategy of signing superstars on a free transfer. That said, the Gunners are reportedly working to thwart their advances by offering the player a new and improved deal. Arsenal’s progress is still relatively unknown, but the player has provided a clear indication of his willingness to stay in a recent interview.
Saliba provides clear signal
After the 3-2 friendly win against Newcastle in Singapore, William Saliba provided a huge update on his future. Speaking to AFTV via Fabrizio Romano, the defender gave a brief and concise reply when asked about his new deal. Quizzed on when he was going to sign, he said: “Hopefully soon! God is great.” He also went on to add his aspirations for the new campaign, saying: “We will try and win everything this year.”
This will go a long way in quelling transfer speculation regarding his future. Some reports have speculated the player would be keen on the move while Los Blancos turn up the heat in the race for his signature. His latest comments align with reports that the Gunners are relaxed about his situation despite strong interest from the Spanish giants.
Arsenal aiming for contract security
William Saliba is hoping to follow in the footsteps of central defensive partner Gabriel by committing his long-term future to the club this summer. Ethan Nwaneri is widely believed to have penned a new long-term contract, with only an announcement remaining. Bukayo Saka is also expected to follow suit given his contract expires in 2027 as well. If the club manages to get these deals over the line then Andrea Berta should be commended for an amazing summer window.
