Liverpool Legend Tips Arsenal To Be Reds’ Closest Title Challengers Again

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes Arsenal will once again be the closest challengers to his former club following the start of the new Premier League campaign. After finishing second in three consecutive seasons, the Gunners enter 2025/26 as genuine contenders, a position further strengthened by their summer recruitment.

Arsenal have spent just under two hundred million pounds on six signings, an outlay that has boosted expectation ahead of what promises to be a difficult season. While rivals have also strengthened, Carragher is convinced Arsenal remain best placed to push Liverpool all the way.

Carragher Backs Arsenal Over Manchester City

As reported by Daily Mail, Carragher explained: “I’d probably say Arsenal as a whole, as a club, as a team, but I’ve just got Pep Guardiola in the back of my mind. He just doesn’t not win. When he doesn’t win a league title, I don’t think he’s gone two years without winning a league title. He’s such a special manager, you think he’s going to conjure something up? I’m also thinking, is this City squad good enough to go and win the league right now? The squad he had last season he couldn’t find something to fix it and we always expect him to do that, so I’d probably just edge for Arsenal.”

Both Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal have started the season with opening wins, against Bournemouth, Wolves and Manchester United respectively. All have strengthened extensively this summer, with Liverpool currently the highest spenders of the window. Chelsea have also emerged as a rising force after their Club World Cup triumph.

A Fierce Title Race Ahead

The 2025/26 campaign is shaping up to be one of the most competitive in recent memory. Arsenal are once again expected to be in the thick of the title fight, with their win at Old Trafford today against Manchester United.

What do you think Gooners? Are Arsenal still Liverpool’s closest challengers for the Premier League title? Or are The Arsenal going to own this season?

COYG!
