Max Dowman provided another indication of his talent with a superb cameo as the Arsenal first-team beat Newcastle United 3-2 in Singapore.
Having featured as a substitute against AC Milan, Dowman did likewise again on this occasion as he entered the fray in the 60th minute in place of Bukayo Saka.
Deployed on the right wing again, the 15-year-old was fouled by Joelinton immediately after entering the pitch.
Dowman tracked back well defensively and also provided a threat going forwards as he had a couple of efforts pushed away.
The highlight of Dowman’s display came as he won the penalty from which Martin Odegaard scored the decisive goal of the game.
Dowman’s skill and intuition proved way too much for the experienced Joelinton in a manner reminiscent of how Jack Wilshere sped past Real Madrid’s Michel Salgado at the Emirates Cup in 2008.
It will be intriguing to see how much Dowman is used at first-team level this season and he will surely remain with the squad for the upcoming friendlies at Emirates Stadium once the Asia Tour is over.
Newcastle had taken the lead through summer signing Anthony Elanga before Mikel Merino equalised, with Alex Murphy then scoring an own goal.
Jacob Murphy levelled for Newcastle in the second half but Odegaard got the winner from the spot.
It was a significant day for Andre Harriman-Annous, with the striker, who progressed all the way through the ranks at Hale End, making his senior debut as he came on in the 75th minute.
Harriman-Annous worked hard to close down Newcastle goalkeeper John Ruddy, while defenders Josh Nichols and Marli Salmon also received further runouts.
Louie Copley and Ismeal Kabia are still awaiting their first minutes of pre-season, with goalkeeper Alexei Rojas also being an unused substitute again.
Arsenal face Tottenham Hotspur in Hong Kong next week and there will surely be much focus on Dowman once again.
