For some time now, Arsenal have craved a top-class, goal-scoring striker.
Arguably, since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s departure, the Gunners have not signed a true out-and-out No.9.
They have struggled to land one, with prime targets like Alexander Isak and Dušan Vlahović opting for moves elsewhere, a frustrating saga Gooners had to endure.
But come summer 2025, Arsenal finally got their man. They secured a goal-scoring monster in Viktor Gyökeres, the deadly Swedish hitman who netted 97 goals across two seasons at Sporting CP.
While the entire Arsenal fanbase would have welcomed the Gyökeres signing, Martin Ødegaard may have been the most delighted of all.
As Arsenal’s chief creator, having a clinical striker ahead of him means fewer wasted chances. Gyökeres could well unlock the assist king within Ødegaard.
Ødegaard names his frontman
And while we wait for Gyökeres to find his rhythm and elevate Arsenal’s attacking play, Ødegaard has already declared the summer recruit his dream strike partner.
Speaking to the media while on international duty, Ødegaard was asked to choose between Erling Haaland, his former Real Sociedad teammate Alexander Isak, and Gyökeres for his ideal frontman.
“I mean, Erling can pretty much play anywhere here in the national team, and he probably gets the most money there, so maybe just cash in and sell him,” he joked, before turning his attention to Gyökeres and Isak, via Tiktok.
“Then I’ll start together with my buddy Gyökeres, and Isak ends up on the bench.”
Those comments should give Gyökeres a timely boost, especially after a lukewarm start to life at Arsenal.

Time to step up
He failed to impress in high-profile clashes against United and Liverpool, and although he scored a brace against Leeds, some remain unconvinced about him.
Some argue he will continue to disappear in big games.
But if Ødegaard and Eberechi Eze forge a strong link with him, keep feeding him, how can he not shine?
Your thoughts welcome in the comments Gooners.
