Official: Arsenal complete the signing of Cristhian Mosquera

Arsenal have officially confirmed the signing of highly rated Spanish defender Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia.

The 21-year-old centre-back joins in a deal worth an initial €15 million, with performance-related bonuses expected to bring the final figure close to €20 million. His arrival was announced across the club’s official channels following a brief slip-up earlier in the week, when his image was mistakenly uploaded during Noni Madueke’s unveiling.

The deal had been in the works for several weeks, with Arsenal seeing two initial bids turned down by Valencia before finally reaching an agreement. Mosquera is expected to join the Gunners’ first-team squad on their ongoing pre-season tour of Asia, having missed the opening match.

Arteta welcomes a versatile talent

Speaking on the Arsenal website, Mikel Arteta expressed his enthusiasm about the latest addition to his squad.

“We’re delighted to welcome Cristhian to Arsenal,” the manager said. “As a 21-year-old defender, Cristhian has already performed consistently well with significant experience in La Liga. He is an intelligent player with good pace, who can play centrally and on both sides.”

“He is a young player with exciting talent and enormous potential, who will fit well into our squad as we continue to prepare for next season. Cristhian adds good quality to our squad, and we look forward to working with him and making him feel at home with us.

Boosting depth in defence

Born in Alicante and eligible to represent both Spain and Colombia, Mosquera progressed through Valencia’s academy before making his senior debut at 17 in January 2022. He went on to make 90 appearances for the La Liga side, becoming a key part of their back line.

The Gunners have confirmed that Mosquera will wear the number 3 shirt. His arrival boosts Arsenal’s defensive depth and provides vital cover and competition for the established pairing of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães. With the ability to play at full-back as well, Mosquera’s versatility will be another asset to Mikel Arteta as the Gunners look to push for silverware in the 2025-26 campaign.
