Albert Sambi Lokonga has penned a heartfelt farewell to Arsenal after completing a move to Hamburg during the current transfer window. The Belgian midfielder, who joined the Gunners in 2021, departs following a permanent deal with the Bundesliga side, bringing an end to his time in north London.
Lokonga initially showed promise at Arsenal, starting brightly and appearing to develop into a midfielder capable of influencing games. However, as time progressed, his performances became inconsistent, and it became evident that he was struggling to meet the level required in Mikel Arteta’s side. The Arsenal manager eventually phased him out of the squad, leading to a series of loan spells.
A Journey Marked by Loans
The Belgian spent time at Crystal Palace and Luton Town in the Premier League but was unable to secure a permanent move with either side. Last summer, he went on loan to Sevilla, where he produced encouraging performances but was hindered by recurring injuries. These setbacks ultimately deterred the La Liga outfit from pursuing a long-term deal.
Facing the possibility of being sidelined for much of the upcoming season, Lokonga’s career received a fresh opportunity when Hamburg stepped forward. According to reports, the German club secured his services for a fee of just 300,000 euros, a cut-price agreement that allowed Arsenal to finally conclude his chapter with them.
Lokonga’s Farewell Message
Following confirmation of the move, Lokonga took to Instagram to express his gratitude to Arsenal and their supporters. His message read:
“Can’t leave without saying thank you … Thank you to the ones giving me the opportunity to wear this badge and to represent the club, It’s been an honour to play for this amazing club !”
The words reflected his appreciation for the opportunity provided by Arsenal, despite the challenges he faced during his spell at the Emirates Stadium.
