Ethan Nwaneri features as England U21s are held to draw by Slovenia

Arsenal youngster Ethan Nwaneri started and played 71 minutes as England U21s were held to a goalless draw by Slovenia in their second group game at the U21 European Championship.

After impressing as a substitute in the opening game against Czechia Nwaneri was given a chance from the outset but it wasn’t the 18-year-old’s most convincing performance, with the position in which he was deployed in the first half not getting the best out of him.

Nwaneri, who started on the left, played a couple of encouraging passes but missed a good opportunity to score after being found by Jonathan Rowe.

After moving over to the right flank in the second half Nwaneri started to have more of an impact prior to being replaced.

At one stage there were three Hale End products on the pitch for England, with Brooke Norton-Cuffy and Omari Hutchinson coming on as substitutes.

England will face Germany on Wednesday in their final group game.
