Arsenal Women winger Freya Godfrey has joined London City Lionesses on a permanent deal. Godfrey has been with Arsenal since the age of 12 and had successful loan spells at Ipswich and Charlton previously, before spending the second half of last season on loan at LCL.
Godfrey helped LCL confirm promotion to the WSL last season, providing three assists across eight appearances in the Championship. She joins Teyah Goldie, who was also loaned to LCL last season and has also made that move permanent this summer.
Kathryn Batte from the Telegraph reports that Aston Villa and Manchester City were interested and that the fee could rise to six figures if all add ons are met. The 20-year-old made her senior Arsenal debut from the bench in the WSL win over Brighton in May 2023. She also made a UWCL appearance as a second-half substitute in the 3-1 win at Valerenga in the UEFA Women’s Champions League in December 2024. Godfrey has signed a three-year contract with LCL.
