Mariona and Alessia Russo nominated for Barclays WSL Player of the Season

Arsenal’s Alessia Russo and Mariona Caldentey have been nominated for the Barclays WSL Player of the Season, while manager Renee Slegers has been nominated for Barclays WSL Manager of the Season.

Mariona signed for the club from Barcelona last summer and has eight goals and five assists in this season’s campaign. Meanwhile, Alessia Russo has built on a strong first season with 12 WSL goals and two assists this season. Slegers took the club over in October, initially on an interim basis, when Jonas Eidevall resigned. She was appointed permanently in January having overseen a big improvement in form.

Mariona and Russo are nominated alongside Sandy Baltimore (Chelsea), Aggie Beever-Jones (Chelsea), Kiko Seike (Brighton), Mary Fowler (Manchester City), Maya Le Tissier (Manchester United), Olivia Smith (Liverpool) and Shekiera Martinez (West Ham).

Slegers is nominated for Manager of the Season alongside Sonia Bompastor (Chelsea), Marc Skinner (Manchester United), Rehanne Skinner (West Ham United) and Dario Vidosic (Brighton & Hove Albion).

Additionally, Frida Maanum’s goal at home to Brighton and Alessia Russo’s at home to Aston Villa have been nominated for goal of the season, Arsenal have been nominated for matchday experience and Co-Chair of the Arsenal Women’s Supporters Club Farah Chowdhury is nominated for supporter of the year.

Part of these awards will be decided by fan vote and more details of how supporters can do that will be publicised via Barclays WSL Social Media Channels in the coming days.
