The international break is in full swing and even though club football is absent, Arsenal fans will still get the opportunity to watch some key players in action. The Spanish duo of Mikel Merino and Martin Zubimendi have already impressed, making two goal contributions combined in their victory over Bulgaria on Thursday. Piero Hincapié also impressed and kept a clean sheet for Ecuador, while the two Gabriel’s featured in Brazil’s first game of the international break. Martin Ødegaard also started for Norway for the first time since picking up an injury.
Calafiori shines for Italy
The latest Arsenal man to produce a solid display is Riccardo Calafiori and it comes after an impressive start to the season. The 23-year-old’s versatility was on display as he started in the heart of the Italy defence against Estonia. He was on top form throughout the encounter as he produced the following statistics:
117 touches (most)
99 passes completed (most)
13 passes into the final third
2 chances created
3 recoveries
3 clearances
Despite being used in a central defensive role, the defender made forays into the opposition penalty area, further illustrating his attacking qualities. This impressive display comes after a very strong start to the new campaign. Calafiori has started all three of our opening Premier League games. He has also made three goal contributions in that time, scoring the winner against United before setting up two goals against Leeds United. He also put in a strong shift against Mo Salah at Anfield, culminating in a Premier League Player of the Month nomination for the Italian.

Arsenal hope for fitness and consistency
After arriving for big money last season, Mikel Arteta and Arsenal will be pleased by his development in the early stages of this campaign. Injuries were responsible for his struggles last season as he could only manage 29 appearances throughout. Due to how well he has started, many will hope he can stay fit for the majority of the campaign, as his qualities will be immense on the left side.
Thoughts on Riccardo Calafiori so far this campaign?
