Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Chloe Kelly on a free transfer on a permanent contract- understood to be for three years. Kelly came through the Gunners academy but left the club in 2018 to join Everton, before signing for Manchester City in 2020.
Kelly scored the winning goal in the final of Euro 2022 for England and at City established herself as one of the best attackers in the WSL. She fell out with former City coach Gareth Taylor and was left out of the team on a long-term basis, before signing for Arsenal on loan on January deadline day.
Kelly quickly established herself in the team and was a key part of the 2025 Champions League triumph. Slegers, a manager who encourages tactical input from players, was quickly taken with her energy in training and with her ideas. The forward made a total of 109 appearances and scored 30 times for Manchester City, winning the FA Cup in 2019/20 and the League Cup in 2021/22 and she has 53 caps and eight goals for England.
“Putting pen to paper on a permanent contract at Arsenal is a standout moment for me”, said Chloe. “Learning from an incredible manager and continuing to build relationships with an excellent team is a journey I’m looking forward to continuing.
“I’m excited for more silverware at this special club and to bring more trophies back to North London to celebrate with our supporters. I’ve always said that Arsenal supporters are the best and to have them on my side, singing my name, means so much to me.”
Director of Women’s Football, Clare Wheatley, said: “We’re thrilled to keep Chloe at Arsenal. Chloe’s application, attitude and performances were outstanding throughout her loan spell last season and we are delighted to continue working together as we gear up for an exciting 2025/26 campaign. I know our supporters have been waiting patiently for this one and I’m sure they’ll join me in welcoming Chloe home to North London.”
Head Coach, Renée Slegers, said: “I’m delighted that we’ve been able to make Chloe a permanent signing for us. She had a great impact for us and played an important role in what we achieved here last season, and I know she shares our ambition to compete for more.”
Kelly will continue to wear the number 18 shirt.
