Pre-season friendly

Arsenal U21s 1 (Oyetunde 86) Rapid Vienna II 4

Daniel Oyetunde scored his first goal of pre-season but Arsenal U21s fell to another defeat as they were beaten 4-1 away to Austria Vienna II.

Interim coach Max Porter still fielded a young side but the likes of Maldini Kacurri, Ife Ibrahim and Harrison Dudziak were called upon after previously training with the first-team, while Will Sweet returned from injury.

Goalkeeper Remy Mitchell, who has seemingly resigned for the club, was named on the bench as he received his first callup at this level since December 2021.

New signing Demiane Agustien was also listed amongst the substitutes and made his debut in the second half.

Lucas Nygaard, Khari Ranson, Theo Julienne and Osman Kamara watched the game from the stands, with the latter currently out injured.

Subs: Clarke (for Kacurri, 18), O’Neill (for Sagoe Jr, 46), Onyekachukwu (for Sweet, 46), Thompson (for Bailey-Joseph, 46), Murisa (for Dudziak, 46), Oyetunde (for Zecevic John, 46), Agustien (for Ibrahim, 46), Mitchell (for Porter, 60), Hashi (for Marciniak, 60). Not used: King, Ogunnaike.

Conceding early goals has been a common theme for the U21s in pre-season and such a scenario occurred again on this occasion as the hosts took the lead after just seven minutes.

There was then further bad news for Arsenal as Kacurri had to go off in the 18th minute due to injury. Brayden Clarke replaced him.

In the closing stages of the second half Austria Vienna II added to their lead, with Marijan Osterreicher finding the net before Arsenal scored an own goal.

Six changes were made at half time, with Agustien and schoolboy Kyran Thompson amongst those to enter the fray.

On the hour mark Mitchell replaced Jack Porter in goal, while Maalik Hashi came on for Alex Marciniak.

Marcel Stoger got a fourth goal for Austria Vienna II, with Oyetunde then netting a consolation for Arsenal.

Arsenal will take on Enfield Town on Tuesday in their next friendly.
