Arsenal have confirmed Mehmet Ali’s departure as U21 coach after he joined the first-team coaching staff at Brentford.
Max Porter and Ken Gillard have been placed in interim charge of the Arsenal U21 team, as reported by the club’s official website.
Arsenal U21s face Boreham Wood a week tomorrow in their first pre-season friendly.
Porter joined the Arsenal academy staff in 2019 and initially took charge of the U13s. He has been assistant coach of the U21s since 2022 and has also coached the U19s in the UEFA Youth League.
Gillard, meanwhile, has worked for Arsenal since 2016. He had a spell as coach of the U18s and most recently managed the club’s loan players.
Ali leaves with Arsenal’s best wishes and helped the development of numerous players during his three years as U21 coach, including Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri.
