Talented midfielder Maalik Hashi takes another step forward in his development

Going into pre-season Maalik Hashi had already been widely identified as one of the standout prospects amongst Arsenal’s new intake of scholars.

The midfielder’s impact in the opening two pre-season friendlies at U21 level have certainly justified those claims and he has probably exceeded expectations.

Hashi found the net against both Boreham Wood and St Albans, with the fact that he scored against two senior teams certainly being a significant feat for a 16-year-old.

There is much more to Hashi’s game than just goals, however, with his anticipation of space being of a very high standard.

Furthermore, Hashi also has very good technical ability and is a neat passer.

Although the likes of Harrison Dudziak, Louie Copley and perhaps eventually Max Dowman will be available at U21 level this season there could well be an opening for Hashi at times. Alex Marciniak, who also has two goals in two games in pre-season so far, could also be in contention.

Hashi seems determined to seize any opportunity that he is afforded after making his U21 debut as a schoolboy against Fulham last season.

If he continues to progress at this rate then playing above his age group could become a common occurrence for Hashi this season.
