Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted that the time has come for Mikel Arteta to deliver a major trophy after Arsenal’s significant investment in the squad this summer.
The Spaniard has overseen steady progress at the Emirates, with his side regularly competing at the top end of the Premier League. However, despite this improvement, silverware has been limited during his tenure. Arteta has enjoyed consistent support from the club hierarchy and fans, but the absence of major honours in recent seasons has been a concern.
Pressure on Arteta to Deliver
Arsenal’s strong performances in recent campaigns have shown clear signs of development under Arteta, yet trophies remain the missing piece. To validate the progress made, many argue that the team must now secure major silverware. With substantial spending once again this summer, expectations have risen further.
Agbonlahor believes that the manager is now under greater scrutiny than ever. Speaking to Talk Sport, he said:
“I just think there is no excuses now.
“One FA Cup he’s won in 2020, that’s all he’s won in five years after spending £1bn.
“If they do not win one of the big ones, I’m talking about Champions League and the Premier League… I think it is time to go.”
His comments reflect a growing sense that Arsenal must take the next step and convert their potential into tangible success.

Expectations for the Season
The Gunners have bolstered their squad with key additions, strengthening both depth and quality. Arteta now has the tools to challenge for top honours, and with rivals also investing heavily, the competition will be fierce. Supporters will expect to see their side competing deep into the Champions League while maintaining a serious challenge for the Premier League title.
For Arteta, this season represents a crucial moment in his managerial career. Continued progress without silverware may no longer be enough to satisfy expectations. The improvements in the squad and the resources invested mean that success will be measured not only by performance but also by the trophies Arsenal secures.
The message is clear: the groundwork has been laid, and it is now time for Arteta to transform promise into achievement.
