France has confirmed that William Saliba has sustained an injury and will not be available for their upcoming international fixtures during this break.

The French defender was forced off in Arsenal’s match against Liverpool at the weekend, with Cristhian Mosquera coming on as his replacement. The Spaniard delivered a solid performance, which helped to limit the impact of Saliba’s absence on the day. However, Saliba remains one of Arsenal’s most vital players, and his importance to the side cannot be overstated.

Saliba’s Influence at Arsenal

Recognised as one of the world’s leading centre-backs, Saliba provides assurance and authority in Arsenal’s defensive line. His presence has been instrumental in the Gunners’ strong start to the season, where they managed clean sheets in their opening two Premier League fixtures. Significantly, the team conceded for the first time after Saliba left the pitch against Liverpool, underlining his defensive value.

For both club and country, his reliability at the back makes him a crucial figure. Arsenal will undoubtedly be eager to see him return as swiftly as possible, given how much stability he offers when leading the defence.

France confirms the Injury

Although he had initially been called up for international duty, Saliba has now withdrawn from the France squad due to the problem. In a statement reported by The Sun, the French Football Federation detailed the extent of the setback:

“The Arsenal defender, injured on Sunday against Liverpool, has been replaced by the Inter Milan defender. William Saliba, who started for Arsenal against Liverpool on Sunday, was forced off in the fifth minute.

“He will not be able to honour his call-up for the first training camp of the season. He has a sprained left ankle. After a discussion with Franck Le Gall, the French national team doctor, Didier Deschamps confirmed William Saliba’s unavailability.

“The national coach has decided to call up Benjamin Pavard as a reinforcement. The Inter Milan defender is expected to return to the National Football Centre in Clairefontaine this Monday.”

The news will come as a disappointment to both France and Arsenal, but there is hope that the injury will not keep him sidelined for an extended period. The focus now turns to his recovery, with supporters hopeful he will be ready to rejoin the team soon after the international break.
