Arsenal are set to continue their ambitious summer transfer activity, with Piero Hincapie reportedly close to becoming the club’s next signing. The move comes as part of a window that has already been viewed as both exciting and successful for Mikel Arteta’s side, with the club determined to strengthen further before the deadline.
Talks to bring the Bayer Leverkusen defender to north London have advanced in the past few hours, and Arsenal appear to be on the verge of hijacking another Tottenham pursuit. Only last week Spurs were in discussions to secure Eberechi Eze, but the player ultimately chose to join Arsenal instead, bolstering their attacking options.
Arsenal Step Ahead of Tottenham
According to Football Insider, Tottenham began negotiations with Leverkusen after Hincapie expressed his wish to leave. The proposal involved an initial loan move with an obligation to buy at the end of the season. Progress was being made as the Ecuadorian centre-back made clear his desire to play in the Premier League, a competition he has admired and wished to experience.
However, the dynamics shifted when Arsenal entered the race. With FC Porto continuing to push for Jakub Kiwior, the Gunners turned their attention to Hincapie as a possible replacement. The defender has now indicated that he prefers a move to the Emirates, giving Arsenal the advantage in finalising the transfer.

Strengthening the Defence
Arsenal’s transfer strategy this summer has been both ambitious and costly, with significant investment already committed. The addition of Hincapie would stretch spending even further, but the club appear intent on making the most of this window to assemble a squad capable of competing at the highest level.
Hincapie’s versatility and defensive qualities make him an attractive option for Arteta, particularly as the club considers allowing Kiwior to depart. His arrival would provide depth and competition in central defence while ensuring the squad remains strong enough to cope with the demands of both domestic and European campaigns.
While the final details are yet to be completed, the move is viewed as a strategic step to ensure Arsenal are well prepared for the season ahead. If secured, Hincapie will have the opportunity to prove himself in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and to establish himself as a key figure in Arsenal’s evolving project.
