Ceadach O’Neill has enjoyed an excellent start to the season for Arsenal U18s, as shown by the fact that he has scored three goals in two appearances.
After coming off the bench to find the net against Norwich, O’Neill was given a starting berth against Southampton.
O’Neill has mainly played as a winger since joining Arsenal last year, while he can also be used as an attacking midfielder if needed but on this occasion he was, intriguingly, called upon as a striker.
The 17-year-old, who already has a professional contract, relished the opportunity and showed impressive composure for both of his goals as well as demonstrating his excellent movement.
With Louis Zecevic John having missed the first two games of the season there could be a temptation for O’Neill to continue playing as a centre forward, for now at least.
Being able to operate in various positions will also help O’Neill’s cause as he looks to break into the U21 squad later in the season.
Arsenal U18s are back in action tomorrow when they host Peterborough United in their first group game of the Premier League Cup, with Adam Birchall’s side looking to register another victory.
Midfielder Teshaun Murisa has also started the season well, while Maalik Hashi scored a superb free-kick against Southampton and winger Brando Bailey-Joseph also had some good moments.
