All four groups have played their first matches at Euro 2025 with plenty of Arsenal involvement. Here’s a round up of the Gunners in action in Switzerland.
Switzerland 1 Norway 2
Lia Walti captained hosts Switzerland on the opening day of the tournament against Frida Maanum’s Norway. The Swiss led at half time thanks to a goal from Riesen. Norway turned it around in the second half with a goal from Ada Hegerberg and an own goal by Stierli. Lia Walti played the full 90 minutes while Frida Maanum, playing on the right wing, played for 76 minutes.
Spain 5 Portugal 0
Mariona started for Spain and notched a pair of assists in Spain’s comprehensive victory over a Portugal side who, clearly, were playing under difficult emotional conditions on the day of Diogo Jota and Adrien Silva’s deaths. Esther Gonzalez grabbed a brace, Vicky Lopez, Alexia Putellas and Cristina were the scorers for Spain. Mariona was withdrawn on 77 minutes.
Sweden 1 Denmark 0
Stina Blackstenius played the full 90 minutes in Sweden’s 1-0 win over Denmark. Filipa Angeldahl scored the winner for the Swedes. Former Gunner Lina Hurtig was an 83rd minute sub.
Wales 0 Netherlands 3
Daphne van Domselaar and Victoria Pelova played the full 90 minutes of Netherlands, coached by former Arsenal Academy head Andries Jonker, 3-0 win over Wales. Victoria Pelova scored the second Dutch goal, the first saw former Gunner Vivienne Miedema score her 100th goal for her country. Esmee Brugts scored the third.
England 1 France 2
Alessia Russo, Leah Williamson and Beth Mead started for England in their 2-1 defeat to France. Chloe Kelly came on for Mead on 60 minutes, while Michelle Agyemang had a strong impact as an 86th minute sub. Katoto and Baltimore scored for France with Keira Walsh getting a late goal back.
In MD2, Switzerland play Iceland and Norway play Finland today.
On Monday, Spain play Belgium at 5pm, Sweden play Poland on Tuesday at 8pm while England play Netherlands at 5pm on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, we fully expect the signing of Taylor Hinds to be announced next week.
