Arsenal prodigy Max Dowman has been included in the Champions League squad ahead of the new campaign. After being part of Mikel Arteta’s pre-season plans, it was clear that the 2025-26 campaign could be a breakout season for the 15-year-old. This became even more apparent following an impressive summer, featuring in every game of the Asia tour before facing Villarreal. Since the start of the Premier League season, the youngster has continued his rich vein of form. Against Leeds United, he made his debut, becoming the second youngest player in the competition’s history. He capped off the milestone by winning a late penalty after some fine play in the box. Arteta urged to protect Dowman after Premier League debut.
Dowman’s place in Arsenal’s squad explained
The youngster is in line to break more records this season despite concerns over his eligibility to feature in the Champions League. At just 15 years old, he has been included in Arsenal’s Champions League squad on UEFA for the league phase. Most youth players such as Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri are registered on the unlimited ‘List B’. This list is for players aged 16 to 21 and Dowman, being only 15, is ineligible. Due to UEFA stipulations, he cannot yet be classified as homegrown.
Fortunately for Arsenal and Dowman, a flurry of deadline day exits opened up opportunities to add players to ‘List A’. With two slots available for non-homegrown players, the club opted for Dowman and goalkeeper Tommy Setford. They are now eligible to feature in the league phase, although Dowman is likely to be moved to ‘List B’ when he turns 16 in December.

Record-breaking potential in Europe
Dowman will have his eye on a Champions League record this campaign. If he makes an appearance, he will shatter the current record for the youngest debutant in the competition. Youssoufa Moukoko set the mark at 16 years and 18 days when he featured for Borussia Dortmund. Dowman does not turn 16 until December 31, giving him ample time to write his name into UEFA history.
Interesting facts, Gooners?
