Gabriel Jesus update: Arsenal striker set for September comeback

Gabriel Jesus has been sidelined for seven months, but his latest social media activity suggests he is closing in on a full recovery. The Brazilian forward has missed the entirety of 2025 through injury, after suffering an ACL problem against Manchester United back in January.

His injury at the time could not have come at a worse moment, given he was on a run of form. Subsequent setbacks during that period also created a crisis, especially in the forward areas. Arsenal failed to address the issue in January, but fast forward a few months later and the Gunners now have far more depth after significant investment in the summer. Even so, Jesus remains an important player, which is why supporters will be encouraged by the latest update.

Training ground progress

The former Manchester City striker is now back training on the grass and, most importantly, with the ball. He posted a clip of himself during a solo training session at the Sobha Realty Training Centre, accompanied by a heartfelt Instagram caption: “It’s been seven months of pain, uncertainty, and anxiety. Today, I finally feel light – like a child playing football again. God is great!”

Injuries have plagued him throughout his Arsenal career, with his misfortune beginning at the last World Cup. Since then, his form has dipped and he has struggled for rhythm. That said, he will be determined to come back stronger and fight for his place in the starting line-up. Due to the severity of his injury and the lengthy time out, Arsenal are expected to proceed with caution over his reintegration. A realistic return could come towards the end of September.

Arsenal’s injury concerns

As Jesus edges closer to fitness, Arsenal are managing issues elsewhere. Martin Ødegaard and Bukayo Saka both picked up injuries against Leeds United, while Christian Nørgaard, Kai Havertz and Ben White were unavailable. It is still very early in the season, but considering the setbacks endured in the previous campaign, Mikel Arteta will be concerned about another growing injury list.

Jesus’ return would provide a huge boost, but there remains a bigger question: does he still have a long-term future with the Gunners?
